Six rules that get broken most oftenHyphen in compound tens
HyphenFrom 21 to 99 a compound numeral takes a hyphen — that is spelling, not styling. A space instead of the hyphen reads as a typo in a contract, and a solid word does not read at all.
The currency agrees with the whole number
NumberEnglish decides by the whole value, not by the last group as Russian does. Hence «one million dollars» in the plural even though the units group is zero. The singular appears only at exactly one.
The scale word stays singular
ScaleThousand, million and billion stay singular after a numeral. The plural («thousands of») exists but means an indefinite quantity rather than a scale, and in this position in a document it is simply wrong.
«and» is British, not American
StyleUS usage omits the conjunction: «one hundred twenty-three». British and Commonwealth usage requires «and» after the hundreds, and a cheque without it looks foreign. The tool defaults to the US form; the British one is a toggle.
Comma groups digits, period marks cents
DigitsThe English figure is the mirror image of the Russian one: commas group the digits, a period marks the decimals. A mixed form like «123.456,78» means a different number in an English document, not the same amount.
English records use the currency code
CurrencyThe three-letter ISO code follows the figure instead of a symbol: it reads unambiguously and does not depend on whether the recipient's font renders ₽ or ₸. The Russian abbreviations have no place in an English record.
